Position Objective

The Senior Director of Giving provides enterprise-wide leadership for all frontline fundraising activities across Luminis Health, with direct oversight of major, planned and corporate giving. This role is responsible for building and managing a high-performing, metrics-driven major gift program that advances system priorities and supports both the Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center (LHAAMC) and Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center (LHDCMC) Foundations. The Senior Director serves as the operational backbone of Luminis Health's fundraising infrastructure, ensuring consistency in practice, portfolio management, and philanthropic outcomes across the enterprise.

This position is system-wide in scope and spends time across both the Annapolis and Lanham campuses. While giving officers maintain a local focus in their donor relationships and community engagement, the Senior Director provides unified direction, standards, and accountability across all frontline fundraising functions.

Essential Functions

  1. Directly manages the Giving Team, consisting of frontline fundraisers for both LHAAMC and LHDCMC Foundations.
  2. Leads the Giving Team with a systemic, metrics-based approach to moves management, ensuring accountability for funding priority management, case statement and proposal templates, pipeline integration, portfolio activity, solicitation goals, and fundraising results.
  3. Develops and implements standard practices, policies, and systems for all frontline fundraising activities across both foundations, ensuring a consistent and high-quality donor experience.
  4. Establishes and monitors individual and team performance metrics; uses data and technology to monitor progress, project results, identify training needs, and inform strategy.
  5. Oversees and manages the comprehensive moves management program system-wide, working in close collaboration with the Department of Philanthropy Operations to ensure comprehensive and effective use of Salesforce and other portfolio management tools.
  6. Develops and implements donor strategies and ensures tracking of relationship records for all Giving Team activity, ensuring accuracy and completeness across the system.
  7. Builds a portfolio of system-level major gift prospects and donors, with a focus on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of significant philanthropic commitments.
  8. Leads the development, documentation, and approval process for funding priorities across Luminis Health in support of the strategy of executive leadership, meeting regularly with operational and clinical leaders at both campuses to identify and validate philanthropic opportunities.
  9. Collaborates with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Luminis Health executives to ensure funding priorities align with system strategic plans and are communicated consistently to giving officers and donors.
  10. Manages the creation of compelling, research-based case statements and gift proposals for major and planned giving opportunities that reflect approved funding priorities.
  11. Oversees the donor research function, ensuring giving officers have current, accurate prospect information to support cultivation and solicitation activities.
  12. Champions effective use of technology platforms across the frontline fundraising team, driving adoption of standard practices and ensuring data integrity.
  13. Works to develop and maintain a robust, data-informed prospect pipeline.
  14. Works with the Donor Engagement and Special Events Team to plan donor cultivation and stewardship events, ensuring events reflect the Luminis Health brand and advance meaningful donor relationships.
  15. Directs the grateful patient program system-wide, including coordination of clinician engagement, patient rounding, and follow-up stewardship.
  16. Oversees the planned giving program, ensuring resources are available for the Giving Team to be conversant, establishing protocols for gift documentation and stewardship, and developing print- and web-based materials.
  17. Oversees donor namings and recognition, including naming opportunity development, tracking, signage, and policy development to ensure consistency across all Luminis Health entities.
  18. Serves as a key leader in the planning and execution of Foundation fundraising campaigns, supporting Foundation Board committees and campaign volunteer leadership alongside the CDO and Foundation Directors.
  19. Functions as a key member of the Luminis Health philanthropy leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and cross-functional collaboration to ensure the success of both foundations.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

  • Demonstrated expertise in major and planned gift fundraising, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of six-, seven- and eight-figure commitments.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a frontline fundraising team in a complex, multi-entity environment.
  • Strong understanding of moves management principles and portfolio-based fundraising strategy.
  • Experience with Salesforce or comparable CRM platforms; commitment to data-driven processes and decision-making.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to produce compelling donor proposals and funding priority documents.
  • Familiarity with healthcare philanthropy, grateful patient programs, and clinician engagement preferred.
  • Knowledge of planned giving vehicles and ability to work effectively with legal and financial advisors on complex gift arrangements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across organizational lines and build effective relationships with clinical and administrative leaders.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum ten years of progressive fundraising experience, with demonstrated success in leadership and major gift work.
  • Minimum three years of experience leading a high-functioning fundraising staff.
  • Healthcare fundraising experience preferred.
  • CFRE certification preferred.

Work Location

Primarily on-site role.

Working Conditions

This position requires regular travel between the Annapolis and Lanham campuses. Light work, as defined by exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally. There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will not be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Pay Range
$180,000$235,000 USD
