 Position Objective:

The Clinic Registered Nurse is responsible for managing of the nursing care essential to the assessment, promotion, maintenance and restoration of patients health and wellness within their scope of practice. They will efficiently and effectively triage incoming calls and provide a variety of nursing treatment functions, including assessment of symptoms, prioritizing patient appointments, facilitating smooth patient flow and by providing assistance to both physician and clinical support staff within the office. They will work to maximize the patients health outcomes and the patient experience by identifying patient and family needs, completing previsit planning, supporting the clinic visit and providing closure to the clinic visits, including scheduling follow up appointments, testing, lab work, and patient instructions. They will respond to walk-ins and/or triage calls, will determine an initial assessment of patient condition and prepare an initial nursing plan of care. The Clinic Registered Nurse will direct and support nursing/clinical personnel providing patient care within the facility as assigned by the Cardiology Team. This includes the evaluation, revision, and implementation of clinical policies and procedures related to the delivery of safe and efficient quality nursing care.

 Essential Job Duties:

  1. Must be able to multi-task and efficiently perform job duties. Must be customer focused and have strong communication skills. Must be able to work independently.
  2. Be able to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and their families to facilitate lifestyle modifications, follow up care, medications, patient education on device functions, remote device transmission, in-clinic visits and other clinic care needs.
  3. Schedules test for patients as needed (CT, Ultrasound, Vascular, Lab, etc.) and surgical appointments with patient and with hospital or surgical center.
  4. Communicates with insurance companies to obtain required authorizations and completes patient FMLA and Return to Work forms.
  5. Handles DME, Home Nursing Orders and follow-up/Post-Op. calls to patients.
  6. Assists physician with in-office procedures and sterilizes surgical equipment as needed.
  7. Responds to urgent/emergency clinical situations, assists with answering phones, follows up on medical questions, medication inquiries, assessing and interpreting lab results, and updating the MSDS binder as needed.
  8. Evaluate and monitor patient vitals, especially cardiovascular readings, and any heart related devices such as pacemakers and loop recorders.
  9. Enrolls, interrogates, and programs patients with cardiac electronic devices in the out-patient setting, daily website checks for urgent alerts and document any device interrogations and patient care needs.
  10. Accurately identifies malfunctions, alerts, and sub-optimal device operations and follows appropriate protocols with making programming changes and notifying physicians.
  11.  Follows nursing process in assessing symptomatic patients and providing follow-through as needed such as discussing with Physicians, giving instructions to patients, making follow-up appointments, or advising patients go to ED. Triages patients for remote alert notifications.

 Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Two years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Experience in cardiology, cardiac nursing and/or Primary Care preferred.
  • Experience with implantable devices and knowledge of device functionality, arrhythmias and internal electrograms preferred.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas within 90 days of hire: implantable devices, device functionality, arrhythmias and internal electrograms.

Required License/Certifications: 

  • Current Maryland Board of Nursing license.
  • 4CPR through the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers level).
  • EP Device Certificate (i.e. Metronics) or must obtain within 90 days of hire

 Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands -

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
