Clinical Pharmacy Specialist - Oncology
Position Objective:
Responsible for carrying out Clinical Pharmacy services with primary practice in the area of Oncology. Promotes evidence-based pharmacotherapy and sound pharmaceutical care through the development of medication management protocols and drug therapy policies. Serves as an Oncology Clinical Pharmacy resource for the health system.
Essential Job Duties:

1. Conducts departmental activities to meet the goals, objectives and policies of the pharmacy department.
2. Participates in improvements in interdepartmental policies and procedures which support the Pharmacy Department and Hospital's strategic goals. Maintains accurate records as required by departmental policies/procedures and federal/state board regulations.
3. Completes all core competencies and documents clinical activities accurately according to policies and procedures. Supports the Investigational Drug Service in daily operations.
4. Serves as the medication expert on the Oncology Unit and provides time-sensitive, accurate information for healthcare providers in acute scenarios.
5. Provides pharmaceutical care, dosing, and guideline recommendations to impact patient care and decrease readmissions. Provides guidance for chemotherapy drug selection and pharmacotherapy regimens in accordance with evidence-based guidelines.
6. Completes pharmacotherapy drug class reviews, formulary addition/deletion, assimilation of evidence-based protocol/order-sets, medication safety activities, and targeted medication expense reductions.
7. Assists in appropriate transition of care services, including medication reconciliation and discharge education for high-risk oncology patients.
8. Serves as the pharmacy representative on multidisciplinary committees involving oncology/chemotherapy and develops oncology-specific educational programs, protocols, SOPs, and order sets.
9. Educates healthcare providers, via in-services, on approved treatment guidelines and criteria to increase appropriate and cost-effective use of medications in the Oncology Unit.
10. Serves as a preceptor for Pharmacy School Students and AAMC Pharmacy Residents.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
· Doctor of Pharmacy degree required
· Completion of PGY-1 residency or 2 years of demonstrated clinical experience required
· Completion of PGY-2 residency or board certification in Oncology preferred
Required Licenses & Certifications:
· Current Maryland State License
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
· Light work: exerting up to 20 lbs occasionally, 10 lbs frequently, or negligible constantly to move objects.
· Reasonable expectation of exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
· Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
