Clinical Pharmacy Specialist - Informatics
Position Objective:
The Informatics Pharmacist designs, implements, trains, and maintains complex technologies to facilitate and automate the medication use process. Technologies leveraged in the automation process include the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) including clinical decision support systems, robotics, intelligent infusion devices, automated dispensing cabinets, tele-pharmacy and remote order review systems, and barcode medication administration (BCMA) systems. The Informatics Pharmacist must use his/her knowledge of information systems and the medication-use process to improve patient care by ensuring that new technologies lead to safer and more effective medication use.
Essential Job Duties:

1. Maintains drug library information in assigned automated systems, including price updates, conversion factors, and Medicare/Medicaid programming.
2. Assists with large-scale implementations of pharmacy systems; collaborates with clinical informatics, clinical teams, operational staff, and project leaders to develop, track, and execute procedures for application implementations and software upgrades.
3. Participates in Epic build, implementation, integration, and maintenance of automation and technology to ensure safe and appropriate medication use; performs end-to-end testing of integrated systems; assists Epic Beacon/Epic Willow teams (eMAR, CPOE, etc.) and other modules interacting with medication ordering, dispensing, and administration.
4. Develops, monitors, and evaluates clinical decision support for continuous improvement, particularly for medications.
5. Builds workbench reports; analyzes drug utilization, formulary compliance, and related metrics as needed.
6. Promotes effective communication concerning medication-use applications; ensures timely dissemination of information related to pharmacy automation and technology; participates on interdepartmental committees and shares expertise.
7. Ensures pharmacy systems are compliant with and supportive of applicable regulatory guidelines.
8. With pharmacy leadership, supports committees and clinical leaders to ensure medication-related systems enable interoperability and transportability of clinical information while maintaining patient safety and confidentiality; contributes to quality projects using the clinical information system to achieve goals.
9. Reviews protocols, orders, and policies as requested; reviews, evaluates, and discusses results of investigations of pharmacy informatics/practice-related issues.
10. Maintains skills required for Inpatient Pharmacist staffing (e.g., medication order verification, supervising and checking Pharmacy Technician work, managing pharmacist-driven protocols, providing medication information to Nurses and Providers); provides occasional staffing coverage to maintain competency.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
The minimum level of education and experience for this position includes:
· Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy required.
· Completion of PGY-1 residency or 2 years of demonstrated clinical experience required.
· Epic EMR experience required.
Required Licenses & Certifications:
· Current Maryland State Pharmacy License.
· Epic Willow Certification preferred.
