Position Objective:
Promotes the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient care through clinical expertise, staff education, professional development, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement. Collaborates with nursing leadership, clinical education, interprofessional partners, and clinical staff to plan and implement organizational and departmental priorities. Fosters a climate of innovation through role modeling, consultation, research, change leadership, and the facilitation of learning within assigned clinical practice area(s).

  1. Provides expertise and support to nurses caring for patients at the bedside.
  2. Demonstrates expert clinical knowledge and skill in relevant to the assigned clinical practice area(s) and patient populations.
  3. Models expert practice to peers, interprofessional team members, health care consumers and learners.
  4. Collaborates with nursing leaders, interprofessional clinical leaders, clinical educators, and staff to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical processes, educational initiatives, and staff performance in support of organizational and departmental goals.
  5. Assists in developing and evaluating ongoing clinical competencies for staff based on identified practice gaps, new skill requirements, changes in processes or procedures, regulatory requirements, and high-risk or problematic aspects of patient care.
  6. Promotes the development of clinical staff by providing learning opportunities appropriate for nurses in different stages of the novice-to-expert continuum.
  7. Assess the need, quality, and cost-effective educational programs for staff.
  8. Seeks experiences to develop, maintain, and improve competence in nursing professional development.
  9. Helps drive practice changes with collaborative partnerships.
  10. Provide professional support to internal and external customers during the implementation of new products and change initiatives.
  11. Monitors emerging trends, research, quality data, and clinical practice issues; collaborates with stakeholders to develop, implement, and sustain appropriate practice changes.
  12. Participates in quality and process improvement activities within assigned clinical practice area(s) and across the organization, including participation in the Clinical Education Council and other applicable councils or committees.
  13. Ensure the use of best practices and evidence-based care.
  14. Recommends practice changes.
  15. Disseminates research findings through educational programs, courses, and other activities.
  16. Promotes, encourages, facilitates, conducts and participates in research, evidence-based practice (EBP) and quality improvement (QI) activities.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

·         Master’s degree in Nursing required.

·         Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field, such as a DNP or PhD, preferred.

·         Five years of registered nursing experience in an acute-care setting required.

·         Significant clinical experience in the assigned specialty or patient population required.

Required License/Certifications:

·         Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Maryland Board of Nursing.

·         Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification.

·         Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider ACLS certification, as applicable to the assigned clinical practice area.

·         Clinical Nurse Specialist board certification and completion of all requirements established by the Maryland Board of Nursing to practice as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.

·         Maintains membership in an applicable professional organization.

·         Adheres to organizational credentialing requirements and nursing bylaws.
