Perioperative Operations Assistant
Position Objective:
Under supervision of the O.R. Clinical Director monitors, controls and records the movement of patients in the Operating Room and performs a variety of complex clerical tasks. Works in partnership with other staff members and physicians; and proactively identifies and provides for the customers’ needs.
Essential Job Duties:
- Answers the phone courteously and professionally per department guidelines, responds to inquiries, and refers all calls as appropriate.
- Assists with the training and orientation of new staff providing performance feedback.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of downtime and/or disaster procedure; and effectively demonstrates the ability to perform job function during such conditions.
- Under the supervision of the OR Clinical Director monitors, controls and records the movement of patients, physicians and staff in the Operating Room.
- Performs a variety of complex clerical tasks: Posting cases, obtain appropriate preference lists for posted procedure(s) as needed in collaboration with team leader. Trigger & verify charges, matching invoices to the appropriate case, ensuring costs are accurately captured.
- Responsible for the input of charges, including creation and maintenance of a catalog with implant pricing that utilizes both original invoices and the charge reconciliation program. Also, verifying, triggering and finally, posting all OR charges in collaboration with the Charge Capture Coordinator.
- Accurately and completely posts all emergency and elective waitlist surgical procedures and channels emergency postings to Anesthesia In Charge, OR Charge Nurse and Central Sterile Processing. In addition, posts and schedules all Endoscopic cases after 5 pm daily and on weekends.
- Collaboratively works with all internal and external customers; proactively identifies and provides for the customers’ needs using appropriate quality service standards as identified in AAMC Code of Conduct. Exercises cooperation, flexibility, understanding and patience in dealing respectfully with customers.
- Notifies support services when there are issues related to housekeeping or facilities maintenance. Follows up on identified issues and assures action is taken.
- Responsible for maintaining time and attendance records for the HPOR and Central Sterile Services, as well as monitoring and correcting time cards in the electronic payroll system.

Educational/Experience Requirements:
Required Minimum Education:
- High school diploma or GED
Required Minimum Experience:
- Basic computer knowledge required, with the ability to enter data.
- Minimum two-year clerical experience in a clinical setting required
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in Perioperative Services preferred.
- Experience with automated scheduling systems or clinical information systems.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

- Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call & overtime may be required.
- Work is performed on a patient care unit and involves contact with patients and health care providers.
- There is potential for exposure to patient with infectious diseases requiring the observance of safe work practices. Work is primarily performed in a perioperative environment.
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
