Interpretive Services Supervisor

Position Title: Interpretive Services Supervisor

Department: Interpretive Services

Position Summary:

The Interpretive Services Supervisor is responsible for ensuring effective communication within our healthcare facilities by coordinating interpreter services, and managing related resources. This role includes invoice management, managing Spanish interpreters, facilitating fluency assessments, and supporting the implementation and ongoing management of interpretation technologies across the health system and will provide on-site leadership for staff at both LHDCMC and LHAAMC campuses.

Key Responsibilities:   

  1. Resource Management:
    1. Assist with the implementation of interpretation technologies such as phones and video remote interpretation devices.
    2. Troubleshoot issues with interpretation resources.
    3. Manage resources including ordering phones/resources as needed to ensure equipment is well maintained and available for LH staff.
    4. Respond to LH leadership/LH staff inquiries and coordinate setting up resources regarding communication and interpretation services.
    5. Budget Management:
      1. Assist with monitoring Interpretation Services budgets for LHAAMC and LHDCMC.
      2. Oversee billing processes and invoices related to interpretation services across the health system.
      3. Metrics and Reporting:
        1. Maintain documentation for inpatient interpretation services.
        2. Track and report metrics for all interpretation services provided to ensure quality and efficiency.
        3. Staff Management:
          1. Provide day to day support for all interpretive staff
          2. Complete required performance management evaluations and other supervisory related tasks.
          3. Bi-lingual Fluency Assessments:
            1. Coordinate and provide appropriate access to fluency assessments across the health system.
            2. Track fluency assessment completion to confirm the fluency of bilingual staff.
            3. Vendor Relations:
              1. Manage vendor relationships, facilitate product demonstrations related to interpretation services, and manage the coordination of onsite visits.

  1. Coordinate Interpreter Scheduling and Onboarding:
    1. Coordinate the scheduling of interpreters and new hires to ensure coverage.
    2. Find coverage for interpreters as needed to meet patient and staff needs.
    3. Participate in interpreter candidate recruitment and interviews, and onboarding of new hires as requested.
    4. Provide Spanish Interpretive services on an as needed basis (if certified).

Qualifications:

- Education:

  - Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

- Experience:

  - Previous experience in interpreter services coordination or a similar role.

  - Experience with interpretation technologies (e.g., Marttis, Language Line).

- Skills:

  - Strong organizational and scheduling skills.

  - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  - Proficiency in bilingual fluency assessments.

  - Ability to troubleshoot technical issues with interpretation equipment.

  - Knowledge of billing processes and metrics reporting.

  - Ability to manage resources and coordinate with vendors.

- Certifications:

  - Certification in interpretation services (e.g., Certified Spanish Medical Interpreter) preferred.

Working Conditions:

- This position may require occasional evening or weekend hours to accommodate the needs of the healthcare facility.

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to lift and move equipment such as phones and tablets as needed.
