Infusion Secretary Job Code:
Reports to: Manager/Director Outpatient Infusion
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Objective:
The Infusion Secretary serves as a liaison between Oncology patients, families and the healthcare team. The Infusion Secretary enhances communication between the healthcare team, patients and their families by explaining hospital processes, scheduling appointments, help resolve physician/patient’s problems and concerns, and facilitate follow up care, and review patient charges
Essential Job Duties:

· Serves as the point of contact for out patient referrals from physician offices.
· Coordinates scheduling for outpatient services rendered in the Infusion Center i.e. Chemotherapy, IV Antibiotic, Blood transfusions, and Monoclonal Antibody treatment
· Conducts patient appointment reminders the day before and informs referring physician of appointment cancellations or no shows
· Serves as the designated liaison through which the patients voice any non-clinical problems and concerns
· Offers patients and family members comfort measures such as beverages and blankets
· Reviews patient charges for accurate billing
· Provide assistance to the nurse by running errands to pharmacy & lab
· Assist physicians with navigating EPIC
· Quality audits for patient safety
· Assist transport patients as needed
· Chair /room readiness for admissions
· Welcome and orient new patients
· Assist with tracking Nursing Oncology Credentials
· Keep patients and staff informed of Oncology Education Forums
· Other duties as assigned to support the unit
Educational/Experience Requirements:
· 1-3 years’ work experience in a healthcare or hospital setting required.
· 1-3 year work experience in a service industry with direct first line customer contact preferred
· Basic computer skills to include data entry and retrieval
· Reads, writes, speaks and comprehends English language; bilingual Spanish preferred
· Ability to work independently and problem solve with minimal direct supervision
· Experience working in outpatient infusion strongly preferred.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:
There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
Physical Requirements: Able to lift patients and patient care equipment up to 35 pounds. Must be able to push, pull and move patients, and patient care equipment. Must be able to bend body downward at waist and be able to kneel. Must have the ability to participate in assisting patients in and out of vehicles and wheelchairs and to push patients in wheelchairs.
