Position Objective:
This position functions as a Treatment Assistant/Case Manager (TA/CM) and as Team Lead for the Treatment Assistant Team. As Team Lead, the position fills the Treatment Assistant Schedule and provides general supervision and support to team assistants. As TA/CM, the position provides general supervision and support for patients and their activities, milieu management, and facilitation of group meetings. This position may be trained to complete assessments or serve as a temporary counselor. Our treatment philosophy is based on evidence-based practices and multiple pathways to recovery; all staff collaborate to provide a treatment environment of learning, growth, and individualized clinical interventions to foster patient success.
Essential Job Duties:

- Creates, maintains, and communicates daily Treatment Assistant Schedule; meets regularly with Treatment Assistant and acts as liaison to Inpatient Clinical Manager.
- Participates in clinical inpatient team meetings, multidisciplinary staff meetings, supervision, and other training as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with patients and multi-disciplinary teams under supervision, to provide care to each patient based on their unique needs, strengths, values and preferences.
- Pathways provides multiple levels of care; every staff member has a role in our patients’ success and staff may be asked to work in other areas of admission or treatment as needed.
- Ensures regular coverage by Treatment Assistants and provides or arranges fill-in staff as needed.
- Maintains inventory of required treatment materials and supplies; reorder or replenish as applicable.
- In collaboration with other team members, provides supervision and support for patients and their activities:
- Provides general supervision of resident environment and activities, including clarification and reminders of program guidelines and rules.
- Orients new patients concerning treatment expectations, patient rights and responsibilities.
- Provides cognitive-behavioral interventions to effect patient change as needed in collaboration with clinical staff.
- May conduct searches and drug testing according to program standards as needed.
- Transports patient to and from groups, breaks, meals and outside appointments as needed.
- Facilitate psychoeducational and/or therapeutic groups as assigned or due to vacancy or absence.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of ASAM, DSM V criteria, Evidence Based Practices, and medications used in substance use treatment, relative to the assessment, reassessment and treatment of patient needs throughout the course of treatment while working to increase knowledge.
- Maintains chart documentation, under supervision, according to Joint Commission, COMAR, Luminis Health and Pathways’ requirements.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
Required Minimum Education. The minimum level of education for this position includes: High school diploma or equivalent required. AA or BA/BS degree in human services field preferred.
Required Minimum Experience: One year experience in behavioral health; individual and/or group counseling, or recovery housing; residential treatment experience is preferred.
Required License/Certifications:
- Current approval as an Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) from the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists is required; Certification as CSC-AD is preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through approved Luminis Health system required within 30 days of hire.
- Driver’s license and driving record with no more than two points.

Flexibility between day and evening hours is required for this position.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Flexibility to work occasionally outside normal daytime work hours.
Must be able to observe and note patient behaviors as needed including during group activities.
Must be able to hear typical environmental sounds including during some background noise.
Can understand and operate from the conceptual basis of tasks and activities.
Ability to move tables and chairs for setting up rooms for counseling.
There is reasonable expectation that employees in this position may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
