Medical Director - Hospitalist Services

This service will provide internal medicine care 24 hours per day, 7 days per week in all areas of the hospital including, but not be limited to, Emergency Room admissions and consults, inpatient internal medicine care, and medical consultation on surgical patients. The Medical Director will assure that these functions occur without interruption. The director will further ensure that the following strategic objectives of the program are accomplished: 1) expand the population of patients serviced by the program, 2) increase Internal Medicine consultative services to the surgical specialties, 3) expand the service area into secondary market areas and 4) manage hospital resources most efficiently.

Provides internal medicine care within the inpatient setting to include (but not limited to) history and physical exams, consultative services, daily rounding services, and discharge planning.

Performs the above mentioned internal medicine care within an acceptable time frame (e.g. history and physical exams within an hour and able to round on 15 patients per day).

Provide medical care that is of high quality as judged by medical peers.

Generates length of stays and hospital charges that are, on average, below that of non-hospitalist medical peers.

Facilitates interactions with the patients, families, peers, ancillary staff, and consultants.Produces reliable and accurate billing records that allow the Anne Arundel Medical Center to correctly bill third party payer and other consumers of healthcare at the hospital.

Cooperates with third party resource management in providing clinical information pertaining to patient condition.

Assures patients and families are kept informed of the clinical management care plan and clinical outcomes on a daily basis.

Respond to the Emergency Department for patient evaluation in a timely manner facilitating timely movement of patients from the ED with a goal of 30 minutes from the time of notification to the time of writing admission orders.

Recruits health care providers to insure adequate staffing of the program.

Participates in marketing the program to primary care practices in the primary and secondary market areas and to the surgical services utilizing the hospital.

Communicates with the directors of the Medical Initiative to insure that they are informed of changes in, needs of, and problems occurring within the program.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Eligible in Internal Medicine or a comparable adult medical specialty required.

The employee must also fulfill the requirements for medical staff membership at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
