Position Objective:

Serves as a clinical expert practitioner specific to L&D and the OR Unit. The position includes both direct and indirect patient care in combination with administrative duties that help manage the day to day operations of L/D ORs. The position assists with planning, budgeting, and evaluation within the shared governance model.

  1. Expertly demonstrates the ability to assess the patient's/family needs, readiness to learn, learning style and present of barriers to learning and demonstrates expert skills in managing complex patient/family scenarios.
  2. Demonstrates the ability to develop, implement and evaluate teaching plans for patient population in the OR/PACU setting in accordance with applicable standards.
  3. Develops complex plans of care that address the physical, psychosocial, spiritual and learning needs of the patient/family.
  4. Assesses individual and unit/service line learning needs. Provides direction to staff for planning and implementing staff education programs. Demonstrates expert skills in both structure and informal teaching situations.
  5. Effectively performs and improves all processes in order to achieve excellence with regard to AAMC's quality standards and benchmarks. Leads the department in developing, monitoring, and changing practice as a result of performance improvement initiatives.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years as a Labor and delivery Nurse.
  • Bachelor’s degree/BSN preferred

 RequiredLicense/Certifications:

  • Current License as a registered nurse by the Maryland Board of Nursing.
  • Adherence to credentialing requirements of AAMC as stated in the bylaws.
  • Specialty certification is required.
  • ACLS/ACLS-OB required within one year of hire.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands -

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
