Labor and Delivery OR Coordinator

Position Objective:

Clinical expert practitioner specific to L&D and the OR Unit. The position includes both direct and indirect patient care in combination with administrative duties that help manage the day to day operations of L/D ORs.

1. Expertly demonstrates the ability to assess the patients/familys needs, readiness to learn, learning style and present of barriers to learning. Demonstrates the ability to develop, implement and evaluate teaching plans for patient population in the OR/PACU setting in accordance with applicable standards.
2. Effectively performs and improves all processes in order to achieve excellence with regard to AAMCs quality standards and benchmarks. Leads the department in developing, monitoring, and changing practice as a result of performance improvement initiatives.
3. Serves as a liaison between unit department and ACP OR team as evidenced by serving on the Surgical Service Council Meeting.
4. Anticipates patients’ needs prior to surgery date.
5. Updates preference cards on a consistent basis.
6. Provides for efficient use of material resources by providing adequate product trials, purchase justifications and analysis of supply costs.
7. Performs monthly narcotic audit check.
8. Maintains OR schedule and coordinates with MD any change in the schedule.
9. Identifies high risk cases and provides information to staff to ensure safe patient care.
10. Ensures standards of care, policies and operational processes are consistent between Edwards Surgical Pavilion, Acute care Operating room and L&D operating rooms.

 Educational/Experience Requirements:

• Three to five years as a Labor and delivery Nurse.
• .Graduate of approved nursing program.

Required License/Certifications:.

• RN with current Maryland licensure
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS.
• ACLS/ACLS-OB required within one year of hire.
