Registered Nurse (RN) - Outpatient Cardiac Surgery

Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, MD

Full Time - Day shift (M-F, 7:30am - 4:00pm, no weekends)

Position Objective:

To triage incoming calls and provide a variety of nursing treatment functions, including assessment of symptoms, prioritizing patient appointments, facilitating a seamless patient experience between the inpatient and outpatient settings efficiently and effectively.This position will aidandserve as a liaison between treating physicians, referring physicians, patients, families, nursing staff and referring facilities to promote quality and continuity of patient care.

  1. Review and prepare patients charts and STS score as needed for clinic
  2. Provides ongoing education to patients and families about upcoming procedures
  3. Triages incoming calls to include medical questions, medication inquires, post-procedure inquiries, etc.
  4. Works closely with research coordinators ensuring accurate information is entered into STS and TVT registries.
  1. Supports ongoing quality assurance activities for the cardiac surgery program, assisting with collecting, measuring, and analyzing statistical data, reporting outcomes to stakeholders, and working with data collectors on their abstraction efforts.
  1. Helps to coordinate daily operational activities required for effective functioning of the Structural Heart Clinic.
  2. Handles follow-up/Post-Op calls to patients.
  3. Handles DME and Home Nursing Orders.
  4. Documents all treatment and patient/family interactions/interventions in the medical record.
  5. Assists patient FMLA and Return to Work forms as needed.
  6. Monitor and ensure patients complete required pre-operative testing, reviews results in collaboration with provider, and communicates results and recommendations to patients
  7. Obtains patient vital signs and prepares patients for examination by physician as needed.
  8. Coordinates pre-operative tests (CT, Ultrasound, Vascular, Lab, etc). and surgery for patients as needed
  9. Assists physician with in-office procedures as needed.
  10. Strong ability to work independently, delegate, and to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. 

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required
  • 2-3 years of related clinical nursing experience preferred.
  • Experienced in cardiovascular Clinical research experience preferred.

Required License/Certifications:

  • Current Maryland Board of Nursing license.
  • CPR through the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers level).

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands -

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
